For prevention of herpes simplex infections in immunocompetent patients: 200 mg administered 4 times a day at approximately 6-hour intervals, or 400 mg administered twice a day at 12-hour intervals. 3. For prevention of herpes simplex infections in immunocompromised patients: 200 mg administered 4 times a day approximately every 6 hours.
Children's dosage
1. For children over 2 years: administered the same as adult dosage. 2. For children under 2 years: administered half of the adult dosage. 3. For chickenpox treatment in children over 2 years: 20 mg per kg of body weight per dose, administered 4 times a day for 5 days.

This medication is used to treat and prevent infections caused by the herpes simplex virus, including primary and recurrent genital herpes, as well as herpes zoster virus infections. It is particularly effective in alleviating acute pain associated with herpes zoster. However, its efficacy against postherpetic neuralgia has not been clearly established. This drug is also used for the treatment of chickenpox in children aged over 2 years. Overall, this medication helps treat various viral infectious diseases and contributes to symptom relief.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

1. For treatment of herpes simplex virus infections: 200 mg administered 5 times a day at 4-hour intervals for 5 days. 2.
