Local anesthesia effects for injection and surgical procedures, mucous membranes of the genitals, and surface anesthesia for leg ulcers.
This medication is used for surface anesthesia of the skin during the insertion of a needle or superficial surgical procedures. It can also be applied for surface anesthesia of the genital mucosa, for example, before removing condylomas. It is effective for surface anesthesia, especially in areas of leg ulcers, prior to cleansing or superficial surgery. It helps reduce patient discomfort and pain with its various applications for surface anesthesia.
Apply about 1.5-2g/10cm2 to the skin for 1 to a maximum of 5 hours, covering the application area with a sealing tape. For needle insertion, apply about 2g for a minimum of 1 hour and a maximum of 5 hours. For the removal of condylomas on the genital mucosa, apply about 5-10g for 5-10 minutes and remove immediately before starting the procedure. For leg ulcers, apply 1-2g/10cm2 for 30-60 minutes, ensuring not to exceed 10g per treatment.
For infants aged 3 months to 12 months, the total amount should not exceed 2g, and the application area should not exceed 16cm2.
This medication is a cream used as a local anesthetic. Caution is advised when using this medication as a rare blood disorder called methemoglobinemia may occur. Patients with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, congenital or idiopathic methemoglobinemia, those with heart or lung diseases, infants under 6 months, and those taking oxidizing agents or related medications are more sensitive to this disorder, and careful monitoring is required during use. Symptoms of methemoglobinemia may include a bluish discoloration of the skin or abnormal coloration of the blood; if symptoms worsen, immediate treatment is required to prevent seizures, coma, arrhythmias, or even death. This drug should not be used in patients with a hypersensitivity to one of the ingredients, in areas with wounds, in patients with mucosal surfaces, contact dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, infants under 3 months, infants under 12 months taking drugs that induce methemoglobinemia, and premature infants born before 37 weeks. Patients with a history of anemia or methemoglobinemia, debilitated patients, the elderly, patients with acute diseases, and those with severe liver disease should use this medication with caution. This medication may cause temporary local reactions such as pallor, erythema, swelling, pruritus, and burning; in rare cases, serious allergic reactions such as anaphylactic shock may occur. Avoid using it near the eyes or in the middle ear as it can cause corneal irritation; if it comes into contact with the eyes, rinse immediately with clean water or saline. When used within the recommended dosages, the risk of systemic toxicity is generally low, but caution is needed as excessive use may lead to severe side effects such as central nervous system and cardiac function depression. Combining this medication with certain drugs (e.g., nitrates, anticancer agents, antibiotics, antimalarials, anticonvulsants, etc.) may increase the risk of methemoglobinemia, so consultation with a healthcare professional is necessary. Pregnant women should use this medication only when the benefits outweigh the risks to the fetus, and nursing mothers should be cautious as some components may be secreted in breast milk. Safety and efficacy in children, especially infants under 3 months, have not been sufficiently studied, so it should be used cautiously, and application to the genital mucosa is not recommended. In cases of atopic dermatitis, the application time should be reduced, and prolonged use may result in local reactions such as erythema or bleeding on the skin. When using this medication, the prescribed method and dosage must be adhered to, and if any abnormal symptoms arise, immediate consultation with a healthcare provider is necessary.
