Treatment of various bacterial infections such as respiratory infections and urinary tract infections
This medication is effective against various bacterial infections. It targets several strains, such as Escherichia coli, Shigella, and Salmonella, and is used for respiratory infections, community-acquired pneumonia, ear, nose, and throat infections, bacterial prostatitis, urinary tract infections, gonococcal cervicitis and urethritis, gastrointestinal infections, infections of bile secretion ducts, skin and soft tissue infections, bone and joint infections, gynecological infections, peritonitis, and infections around the eyes. However, as this drug is a fluoroquinolone, there is a risk of specific side effects, thus it should only be used in cases where no other treatment options are available for acute bacterial sinusitis, acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, simple urinary tract infections, and acute otitis media. Therefore, it is effective in improving and treating various bacterial infection symptoms.
For general adult dosage of ciprofloxacin, 250-500 mg orally, twice a day between meals. For severe complex infections, the dosage may increase to 750 mg twice a day. In cases of acute infection, treatment usually lasts for 5-10 days, and at least 3 additional days should be given after symptoms disappear. For patients with renal impairment, 250-500 mg should be administered once or twice a day based on creatinine clearance.

Caution is needed for the elderly, patients with decreased kidney function, transplant recipients, and those taking corticosteroids as the risk of tendon rupture increases. It should not be combined with corticosteroids, and if any pain or inflammation in the tendons occurs, the medication should be stopped immediately, and one should rest and avoid exercising. This drug may induce seizures, so caution should be exercised in patients with epilepsy or central nervous system disorders, and treatment should be stopped immediately if seizures occur. It is not to be used in pregnant women, women who may become pregnant, nursing mothers, or children and adolescents under 18 years of age. Moreover, patients with hypersensitivity to this medication or a previous history of tendonitis or tendon rupture should not be administered this drug. During use, avoid strong sunlight or ultraviolet light exposure and discontinue the medication if symptoms of photosensitivity occur. Blood sugar fluctuations may occur, so diabetic patients should closely monitor their blood sugar, and seek immediate treatment if hypoglycemic symptoms appear.
