Improvement of hypoproteinemia and malnutrition
This medication is used to improve the nutritional status of patients by supplying amino acids in conditions such as hypoproteinemia, malnutrition, and pre- and post-operative situations.
For adults, intravenous drip should be administered at a maximum dosage of 1 to 1.5 g per day per kg of total amino acids. The infusion rate should aim for a concentration of approximately 10 g of total amino acids over 60 minutes, with a principle of administering 80 to 130 drops per minute.
For children, the dosage and infusion rate should be adjusted.
This drug must be used only under the direction of a physician. It should not be used in patients with hepatic coma or concerns for it, severe renal impairment, or patients with nitrogen metabolism issues, patients with heart failure or pulmonary edema. Additionally, it should not be administered to patients with very low or absent urine output, hypernatremia and hyperchloremia or alkalosis patients, those with specific cardiac conduction disorders or myasthenia gravis, patients with amino acid metabolism disorders or hypersensitivity to the amino acids contained in this drug, hyperkalemia patients, or patients with myocardial infarction. It should be administered cautiously in patients with severe acidosis, congestive heart failure, edema due to sodium retention, and patients with liver or kidney dysfunction, as the sodium pyrosulfite contained in this drug can cause allergic reactions or asthma attacks; patients with asthma should be especially careful. Rare side effects such as rash, nausea, vomiting, chest discomfort, palpitations, increased blood pressure may occur, and acidosis may occur with large rapid administration. Severe symptoms such as chills, fever, headache, breathing difficulties or shock, bronchospasm, urinary tract spasm may occur, and if abnormal symptoms appear, administration should be immediately stopped. Various metabolic complications may occur, including metabolic acidosis, hypophosphatemia, hyperglycemia, dehydration, elevated liver enzymes, and vitamin imbalances, and patients with impaired liver or kidney function may have elevated specific values in the blood. Electrolyte balance must be observed carefully during administration, and patients with kidney disease, lung disease, or heart disease should avoid excessive fluid administration. Diabetic patients should check blood sugar levels frequently, and when administering amino acid solutions alone, ketone bodies may accumulate; it is advisable to administer them together with carbohydrates. Blood sugar, electrolyte, protein levels, kidney and liver function, acid-base balance should be regularly monitored to closely observe the administration state. There may also be drug interactions; for example, when used with tetracycline, the protein-sparing effect of the amino acids may decrease, and if magnesium is included and injected with calcium salts, precipitation may occur. The safety of this drug has not been established in pregnant women, so it should only be administered when the benefits outweigh the risks. For children, it is advisable to maintain lower administration concentrations due to immature liver function, and infants are at risk for hyperammonemia, so blood ammonia levels should be frequently checked. Elderly patients require special care as their physical function is diminished, thus administration speed should be slow and doses should be reduced. This drug contains electrolytes, so electrolyte balance must be checked during large administrations, and when administered intravenously, it should be infused slowly to minimize side effects. Prior to administration, the solution should be adjusted to body temperature and prepared and managed in a sterile condition, ensuring that the solution is transparent and free from any abnormalities before administration.
Hives, severe swelling (edema), chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweat, pallor, severe rash with high fever, blisters, skin peeling, pain in oral/eye mucosa, difficulty breathing or shortness of breath, asthma attacks, respiratory abnormalities accompanied by cough + fever, yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice), extreme lethargy, sudden and severe headache, thunderclap headache, seizures, confusion of consciousness, visual disturbances, paralysis, change in urine output
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This drug should be stored in a sealed container to prevent air or moisture from entering. Moreover, it is advisable to keep the drug at room temperature, which should not be too hot or too cold, specifically between 1 degree to 30 degrees Celsius, to maintain the drug's efficacy over time.
