Efficacy & effects

Dosage

Tramadol Hydrochloride 50 mg orally as a single dose, and if analgesia is inadequate after 30-60 minutes, an additional 50 mg can be administered. The maximum daily dose is 400 mg.

Precautions

This drug can cause seizures if taken beyond the recommended dose, so it is essential to adhere to the dosage. Patients with a history of seizures or at risk of seizures should use this medication only when absolutely necessary. Long-term use may lead to psychological and physical dependence, and patients with a history of drug abuse or dependence should be monitored carefully. Taking this drug along with alcohol or central nervous system depressants (such as benzodiazepines) can lead to severe drowsiness, respiratory depression, coma, or even death; thus, it should be avoided or used at minimal doses for a short duration. Patients with genetic traits that cause rapid drug metabolism may have higher blood levels of active metabolites, increasing the risk of respiratory depression, so caution is required. This medication should not be used in children under 12 years old and in individuals under 18 years old who have undergone tonsillectomy or adenoidectomy, and administration in adolescents aged 12 to 18 should also be avoided if certain risk factors are present. Patients with sleep apnea or hypoxemia should regularly check for worsening symptoms while taking this drug and reduce or discontinue the dose if necessary. Patients with acute alcoholic intoxication, central nervous system drug intoxication, severe respiratory depression, head injury, those on MAO inhibitors, patients with severe kidney or liver disease, pregnant and nursing women, and children under 12 years old should not take this medication. Drowsiness and dizziness may occur during treatment, so driving or operating machinery should be avoided. Long-term use may lead to tolerance, necessitating a dosage increase, and sudden discontinuation can lead to withdrawal symptoms, so dosage should be reduced gradually. This drug interacts with many other medications, particularly central nervous system depressants, antidepressants, and anticoagulants, and requires careful dosage adjustment and monitoring under a doctor's supervision. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not take this drug, as breastfeeding may expose the infant to serious side effects through breast milk. In case of overdose, severe respiratory depression and seizures may occur, necessitating immediate emergency treatment and, if needed, the administration of an antidote. This medication should be stored in a safe place out of reach of children and kept in its original container to prevent degradation of quality.
