Precautions

This medication can cause seizures if taken in excess of the recommended dose, so it's essential to adhere to the prescribed dosage. Patients with epilepsy or a risk of seizures should only take this drug when absolutely necessary. Long-term use can lead to psychological and physical dependence, and patients with a history of substance abuse or dependence must be managed carefully. Co-administration of this drug with alcohol or central nervous system depressants (such as benzodiazepines) can lead to severe drowsiness, respiratory depression, coma, or death, so this combination should be avoided or used only at minimal doses for a short period. Patients who metabolize the drug rapidly due to genetic traits may have increased levels of active metabolites in the blood, raising the risk of respiratory depression. This medication should not be used in children under 12 years old or in those aged under 18 who have undergone tonsillectomy or adenoidectomy, and it is advisable to avoid administration in teenagers aged 12 to 18 with specific risk factors. Patients with sleep apnea or hypoxemia should monitor their symptoms regularly while taking this medication and reduce or discontinue use if necessary. Acute alcohol intoxicated patients, those with central nervous system drug overdose, severe respiratory depression, head injury, those taking MAO inhibitors, patients with severe kidney or liver disease, pregnant or breastfeeding women, and children under 12 years old should not take this medication. While on this medication, drowsiness and dizziness may occur, so driving or operating machinery should be avoided. Long-term use may lead to tolerance, necessitating an increase in dosage, and sudden discontinuation may cause withdrawal symptoms, so the dosage should be reduced gradually. There are many interactions with other medications, especially with central nervous system depressants, antidepressants, anticoagulants, etc., so dosage adjustment and close monitoring are required under physician's direction. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not take this medication, and during breastfeeding, care should be taken to prevent serious side effects in infants due to drug exposure through breast milk. In cases of overdose, severe respiratory depression and seizures may occur, requiring immediate emergency treatment, and antidotes may be necessary. This medication should be stored out of reach of children in a safe place and kept in its original container to prevent quality deterioration.
