Treatment of infections such as Streptococcus
This medication is effective against a variety of harmful bacteria including streptococcus, pneumococcus, staphylococcus, and gonococcus. It is used for skin infections such as boils, abscesses, and soft tissue infections, as well as for secondary infections after wounds. It also helps in the treatment of respiratory infections such as tonsillitis, otitis media, and sinusitis, in addition to pneumonia and bronchitis. Moreover, it is used for treating urinary tract infections such as pyelonephritis, cystitis, urethritis, and for systemic infections such as scarlet fever, peritonitis, and liver abscess. It is effective against serious infections like osteomyelitis and intrauterine infections, thereby improving various infectious diseases.
For adults and children weighing 20 kg or more, administer 250-500 mg (potency) of amoxicillin orally 3 times a day.
For children weighing less than 20 kg, administer 20-40 mg/kg (potency) divided into 3 doses daily.
This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, patients with a history of allergic reactions or shock to this medication, those hypersensitive to penicillin antibiotics, infectious mononucleosis patients, and patients with lymphocytic lymphoma should not take this medication. Additionally, patients with a genetic disorder that prevents the breakdown of lactose should also refrain from using this medication. There are also patients who need to be cautious when using this medication. Those with allergies to cephalosporin antibiotics, individuals with allergic predispositions, patients with very poor kidney function, the elderly, and those in poor general condition should exercise caution when taking this medication. In particular, if kidney function is weak, the interval between drug administration should be extended, and observation is needed as vitamin K deficiency symptoms may appear. This medication can cause various side effects, so if symptoms such as discomfort, rash, fever, abdominal pain, diarrhea, dizziness, or skin rash occur during use, it is essential to stop taking the medication immediately and consult a doctor. Rarely, serious allergic reactions or abnormalities in liver or kidney function, or blood abnormalities may occur, necessitating regular observation. When using this medication, sensitivity testing should be performed to prevent the emergence of resistant bacteria, and it is recommended to administer it only for the necessary duration. Furthermore, thorough questioning and skin response testing before administration is recommended to prevent allergic reactions. This medication may interact with other drugs, so caution is needed when taken in conjunction with allopurinol, probenecid, oral contraceptives, certain antibiotics, and anti-inflammatory drugs. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should consult a doctor before taking this medication, as its safety has not been fully established. Safety for children or neonates, especially for low birth weight infants, has not been established, so special caution is required. Elderly patients may experience side effects more easily due to decreased physical function, and there is a risk of bleeding due to vitamin K deficiency, so dosage adjustments and monitoring of their condition are important. This medication may affect urine test results, so caution is required during testing, and overdose may pose a risk of kidney damage, so it is important to adhere to the prescribed dosage.
