Improvement of condition through hydration and electrolyte replenishment before and after surgery, as well as energy supply
This medication helps replenish fluids and electrolytes needed for dehydration or before and after surgery, while also aiding in the supply of energy in the body. Therefore, it is effective for improving dehydration symptoms and recovering physical strength, and it is used to stabilize overall health.
Typically, for adults, 500 to 1,000mL is administered via intravenous infusion. The infusion rate is 300 to 500mL per hour (75 to 120 drops per minute).
In pediatric cases, the administration rate should be 50 to 100mL per hour. Particularly in newborns and premature infants, rapid infusion (over 100mL per hour) should not be done. The dosage and infusion rate should be adjusted according to age, weight, and symptoms.
Caution is required as this medication may lead to a rapid depletion of vitamin B1 (thiamine) in patients receiving intravenous glucose-containing solutions, resulting in severe deficiency. This medication should not be administered to patients with excessive fluid volume or storage-type dehydration, or to patients with low serum potassium levels. It should be used cautiously in patients with impaired renal function, heart failure, those with hyperosmolar dehydration (elevated blood concentration), patients with reduced urine output due to urinary obstruction, diabetic patients, and those with high serum chloride levels. Administering this medication at a rapid rate or in large volumes can lead to brain and lung edema, as well as body swelling and acidosis; there is a particular risk of fluid overload in newborns and premature infants. Care should also be taken as there is a potential risk of thrombosis at the intravenous injection site. During treatment, blood glucose levels, blood electrolyte balance, and fluid status should be regularly monitored for any abnormalities. The container of this medication is made of PVC material containing the plasticizer DEHP, which may affect reproductive development in animal studies, but the actual risk to humans is considered very low and does not necessitate avoidance of its use. The safety of this medication during pregnancy has not been fully established, and it should only be used after careful consideration of the risks to the fetus and the benefits of treatment. Caution is advised when administering during labor, as both mother and fetus may experience metabolic disturbances such as hyperglycemia or hypoglycemia. Newborns, particularly premature or low birth weight infants, have difficulty controlling blood glucose levels, which increases the risk of hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia, necessitating careful monitoring of blood glucose levels. Rapid or prolonged administration should be avoided in infants and the elderly, and in elderly patients with heart failure or renal failure, it should be administered more cautiously to reduce cardiovascular burden. In cases of overdose, treatment with diuretics may be necessary to manage body fluid levels. Before administration, the patient's skin and injection equipment should be thoroughly disinfected to prevent infections, and particularly in cold seasons, the medication should be warmed to body temperature before use. Opened medication should be used immediately, and any remaining solution should not be reused. When injecting, it should be done slowly intravenously, and to reduce the risk of air embolism, the containers should not be connected in series. Lastly, this medication should be stored at room temperature, and proper storage and handling are essential.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should be stored in a sealed container to prevent air or moisture from entering. This helps maintain the medication's efficacy and prevents degradation.
