Improvement of condition through hydration and electrolyte supply and energy provision before and after surgery
This medication is used to replenish body fluids and electrolytes during dehydration or before and after surgery. It also plays a role in supplying the necessary energy for recovery. It is mainly used for maintaining fluid and electrolyte balance and providing energy.
For adults, administer 500-1,000mL by slow intravenous drip. The administration rate is 300-500mL per hour (75-120 drops per minute).
For pediatric patients, the administration rate should be 50-100mL per hour. Particularly, avoid rapid infusion (more than 100mL per hour) in neonates or premature infants.
This medication is a glucose-containing injection that can rapidly deplete thiamine (vitamin B1) in the body when administered intravenously, leading to severe thiamine deficiency. It should not be used in patients with an excessive amount of fluid, storage dehydration, and low potassium levels in the blood. Caution should be exercised in patients with impaired kidney function, weakened heart function, hypertonic dehydration, reduced urine output due to urinary obstruction, diabetes patients, and high serum chloride levels. Rapid or large volume administration of this medication can lead to edema in the brain and lungs or excessive fluid accumulation in the body, and conditions such as acidosis may occur. Particularly, rapid administration in neonates or premature infants may cause fluid overload side effects, and there is a risk of thrombosis at the injection site. Blood sugar levels, serum electrolyte concentrations, and fluid balance in the body should be regularly monitored, and immediate action should be taken if abnormalities occur. The container of this medication is made of PVC material containing a plasticizer called DEHP, which may leach in trace amounts, but the actual risk is very low and much less than the risk of not using this medication. During pregnancy, it should be used only when the therapeutic benefits outweigh the potential risks to the fetus, and intravenous glucose during labor may pose problems like hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia for both the mother and fetus, hence careful judgment is needed. Neonates, especially premature or low-birth-weight infants, require careful monitoring of blood sugar levels as hypoglycemia may lead to brain damage, necessitating close observation. In infants and the elderly, rapid administration or prolonged administration should be avoided, and in the elderly, additional caution should be taken to reduce cardiovascular burden if heart and kidney functions are weak. In cases of overdose, diuretics should be used to manage fluid levels in the body. Before administration, the skin and instruments should be disinfected to prevent infection, and during winter, the solution should be warmed to body temperature before use; any unused solution after opening should be discarded. When administering by injection, it should be done slowly intravenously, and to reduce the risk of air embolism, multiple containers should not be used in succession.
Severe edema
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
The medication should be stored in a sealed container to prevent air and moisture ingress. This will help maintain the medication's effectiveness over time.
