It's apple season. Thanks to their sweet taste and crunchy texture, apples are loved by everyone and provide various health benefits.

 

First, it is good for preventing heart disease. This is thanks to a type of flavanol called flavan-3-ol found in apples, which is an antioxidant. This compound lowers blood pressure and reduces the risk of heart disease and stroke. According to an analysis of 157 clinical trials and 15 studies conducted by a joint research team from the United States and the United Kingdom, eating 'one apple,' which contains 400 to 600 mg of flavan-3-ol daily, resulted in...

 

It has been shown to help prevent heart disease and stroke. It also improves total cholesterol levels and bad cholesterol levels, and has a blood sugar-lowering effect.

Eating an apple in the morning helps with weight loss. According to a study by Pennsylvania State University in the United States, the group that ate an apple in the morning showed approximately a 15% reduction in calorie intake. The calorie content of an apple is about 57 kcal per 100g, which is slightly higher than tangerines (39 kcal), pears (51 kcal), and grapefruits (30 kcal). However, it provides a strong sense of fullness, so even a small amount can help control meal portions. Apples are rich in a component called 'pectin,' which aids in gastrointestinal motility and helps prevent constipation.

 

Apples are also good for maintaining skin health during the dry seasonal change. The abundant malic acid, vitamins, and sugars in apples provide elasticity to the skin and make rough skin transparent and smooth. Quercetin in the skin has antioxidant properties that prevent aging. Citric acid, which gives apples their sour taste, helps break down and eliminate fatigue substances. Eating apples can restore vitality and help achieve restful sleep.

 

Apples are most delicious when their skin is rough and evenly colored overall. It is also better if they feel heavy and firm when held in hand (Korea Rural Development Administration data). When storing, do not keep apples with other fruits, as the ethylene hormone released by apples accelerates the ripening of other fruits.
