This drug is mainly used for seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis, chronic idiopathic urticaria, and pruritus. It also helps alleviate symptoms when used with hydrocortisone ointment in treating eczema and dermatitis. Overall, it improves various symptoms related to allergies and skin disorders.
Adults and children over 6 years old should take 10 mg of cetirizine hydrochloride orally once daily before bedtime. Patients who are sensitive to adverse reactions may take 5 mg split into morning and evening doses. Adjust as necessary based on age and symptoms. Dosing intervals and amounts should be adjusted for patients with renal impairment. The dosing based on creatinine clearance is as follows: - Normal (≥80 mL/min): Once daily 10 mg
Children over 6 years old should take 10 mg orally once daily before bedtime, similar to adults. Dosage for children with renal impairment should be adjusted individually based on the child's renal clearance and weight.
This medication should not be taken by individuals who are allergic to specific drugs or components. Patients with significantly impaired kidney function or children under 6 years old should not use this medication. While taking this medication, it is advisable not to use certain drugs, such as theophylline or ritonavir, together. Excessive alcohol consumption while taking this medication should be avoided. Individuals with kidney or liver problems, elderly patients, epilepsy patients, or those with urinary retention should consult a healthcare professional before using this medication. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should also take caution when using this medication. Overdosing may lead to various side effects including confusion, drowsiness, headache, and urinary issues, so immediate consultation with healthcare professionals is necessary. It is recommended to temporarily discontinue this medication before allergy testing.
