This medication may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or behavior in children, adolescents, and young adults with depression or other psychiatric disorders, and careful monitoring by a physician is needed for these patients. During the use of this medication, it is important to closely observe if there are worsening symptoms of depression or the emergence of suicidal impulses or unusual changes in behavior. Family members or guardians should also observe the patient carefully and consult medical personnel immediately if any abnormalities occur. Patients suspected of having bipolar disorder should undergo appropriate testing before using this medication, as it may induce mania or mixed episodes, so caution is necessary. The serious side effect known as neuroleptic malignant syndrome, which can be fatal, may occur rarely, so if symptoms such as high fever, muscle rigidity, changes in mental status, or irregular pulse appear, medical personnel should be informed immediately. Prolonged use may lead to irreversible tardive dyskinesia, so it is recommended to use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration possible, and any unusual symptoms should be discussed with a physician. Using this medication in elderly patients with dementia may increase the risk of cerebrovascular accidents such as strokes and death, so this drug is not used to treat dementia-related psychiatric disorders. This medication can elevate blood sugar levels, so diabetes patients or those at risk of diabetes should regularly monitor their blood sugar control status and consult medical personnel immediately if hyperglycemia symptoms occur. There is a risk of venous thromboembolism, so patients with risk factors for thrombosis should be carefully managed before and during the use of this medication. Patients with hypersensitivity to this medication or genetic problems such as lactose intolerance should not take it. Patients with symptoms such as orthostatic hypotension, history of seizures, cognitive impairment, temperature regulation issues, or dysphagia should use this medication cautiously, especially when driving or operating hazardous machinery. While taking this medication, side effects such as drowsiness, dizziness, anxiety, insomnia, vomiting, constipation, headache, fatigue, appetite changes, weight gain, hypersalivation, tremors, sedation, restlessness, blurred vision, muscle pain, musculoskeletal stiffness, sore throat, cough, muscle spasms, stuttering, hyperactivity, abnormal behavior, hallucinations, gastrointestinal dysmotility, urinary disorders, muscular hypertonia, fever, fatigue, decreased appetite, drooling, hypersomnolence, and excessive sleep may occur. If these symptoms are severe or persistent, consult a physician.
