How to take

Adult dose

Take as a single dose before a meal with a small amount of water, or take with a small amount of food. Adults: Take 50 milligrams 3 times daily initially. Depending on tolerability, after 4-12 weeks of treatment, gradually increase the dose as usual to a maintenance dose of 100 milligrams up to 3 times daily.

Precautions

This medication should not be administered to certain patients. Patients who are allergic to this medication or its excipients should not take it. This medication should not be used in children or teenagers under 18 years of age. It is also safer for pregnant or breastfeeding women not to take this medication. Patients with inflammatory bowel disease, colonic ulcers, or a risk of bowel obstruction should be cautious, as symptoms may worsen with this medication. Patients with chronic bowel disease accompanied by digestive disorders or malabsorption, as well as those with hernias, should avoid taking it, as it may increase intestinal gas and worsen their condition. Patients with severely impaired kidney function, especially those with a creatinine clearance of less than 25 ml/min, should not use this medication. This medication can increase the risk of hypoglycemia when used in conjunction with sulfonylurea, so if taken together, careful dosage adjustments should be considered. Additionally, it contains Yellow No. 4 (Tartrazine) dye, so patients with allergies or hypersensitivity to this component should be cautious. This medication may increase undigested carbohydrates in the intestines, which can lead to an increase in intestinal gas and symptoms such as abdominal bloating, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. These symptoms may be influenced by dosage and food intake and may gradually improve over time. Avoiding foods containing sugar or simple carbohydrates and adhering to the prescribed diet may help reduce symptoms. If diarrhea persists, it is necessary to reduce the dosage or discontinue the medication according to the physician's instructions. Rarely, gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, constipation, and dyspepsia may occur. This medication may interact with other drugs, so caution is needed. Especially when taken with Glibenclamide, Metformin, Propranolol, and Ranitidine, dosage adjustments or monitoring may be required. Additionally, the effect may be reduced when combined with intestinal adsorbents or digestive enzymes containing carbohydrate-digesting enzymes, so these should be avoided. Caution should also be exercised when used with laxatives, as gastrointestinal symptoms may become more severe. Pregnant women are advised not to use this medication, as its safety has not been sufficiently established, and breastfeeding women should also avoid taking it for safety reasons. In case of overdose, gastrointestinal disturbances may occur, so it is advised to avoid foods or drinks containing carbohydrates and, if necessary, to receive conservative treatment for diarrhea. This medication should be kept out of the reach of children, and transferring it to another container may pose a risk of accidents and quality deterioration, so caution is necessary. There are no known special effects while operating machinery or driving, but since weight loss and other side effects have been reported, it is advisable to monitor your condition closely while taking this medication.
