Treatment of essential hypertension and reduction of cardiovascular disease risk
This medication helps lower blood pressure in patients with essential hypertension to maintain cardiovascular health. It is also effective in reducing the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, and mortality due to cardiovascular disease in patients over 55 years of age who are at high risk for cardiovascular disease and cannot use ACE inhibitors. Due to these properties, it improves cardiovascular health management in patients with a history of coronary artery disease, peripheral artery disease, stroke, or high-risk diabetes. Therefore, this medication is used for essential hypertension and to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
Essential hypertension: Telmisartan should be orally administered once daily at 40 mg with water and can be taken regardless of food. Depending on the patient, a dosage of 20 mg once daily may be effective. If necessary, the dosage can be increased up to 80 mg once daily, and dose increases show maximum blood pressure-lowering effects within 4 to 8 weeks after treatment initiation. Reduction of cardiovascular disease risk: It is recommended to take this drug orally once daily at 80 mg with water, and it can be taken regardless of food. The risk reduction effect on morbidity and mortality of cardiovascular disease at doses below 80 mg is not known. When starting treatment with this medication for cardiovascular disease risk reduction, monitoring blood pressure is recommended, and appropriate adjustment of antihypertensives may be required. ○ In patients with liver impairment Caution should be exercised in moderate to severe liver impairment, and the dose should not exceed 40 mg once daily.
