Relief of symptoms of allergic skin diseases (chronic idiopathic urticaria)
This medicine is used to relieve itching and skin rashes caused by chronic idiopathic urticaria, which is one of the allergic skin diseases. It primarily reduces allergic reactions that appear on the skin, improving the discomfort for the patient. It helps patients suffering from chronic idiopathic urticaria by relieving symptoms, thereby enhancing their quality of life.
Adults and adolescents over 12 years should take 180 mg of fexofenadine hydrochloride once daily orally with water before meals. Patients with renal impairment should start with a dose of 60 mg orally once daily with water before meals.
Safety and efficacy in children under 12 years have not been established.
This medication should not be used in patients allergic to this drug or any of its components. Furthermore, it is also advisable not to administer it to patients with impaired kidney function. Elderly patients or those with heart diseases or a history of heart diseases should exercise extra caution when using this medication. While taking this medication, watch for side effects such as headache, drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, cold symptoms, and lower back pain. Rarely, symptoms like fatigue, insomnia, irritability, sleep disturbances, nightmares, and dry mouth may occur, as well as allergic reactions such as skin rashes or hives. In severe cases, hypersensitivity reactions such as difficulty breathing, low blood pressure, chest pain, and skin flushing may occur; if these symptoms arise, discontinue use immediately and consult a healthcare professional. Liver function abnormalities may occur, so regularly receive liver function tests and discontinue treatment if signs of abnormalities appear. This medication is known not to significantly affect driving or machine operation, but individuals sensitive to medication should check their condition after taking it. Interactions with other medications are minimal, but caution is advised as the blood concentration of this medication may increase when taken with some antifungals or antibiotics. It is recommended to take it at least 2 hours apart from antacids containing aluminum or magnesium hydroxide. Taking this medication with fruit juices, particularly grapefruit juice, orange juice, or apple juice, may decrease its effectiveness, so it is advised to take it with water. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should carefully consider the risks to the fetus versus the benefits of treatment when taking this medication, and nursing women are advised to avoid this medication. Caution is needed for children, especially those under 12 years, as safety and efficacy have not been sufficiently proven. Elderly patients may have a higher possibility of reduced kidney function, necessitating dosage adjustments and monitoring of kidney function. When undergoing certain clinical tests such as allergy tests, it is necessary to discontinue this medication 3 to 5 days prior to the test for accurate results. There have been no specific reports of acute toxicity in case of overdose, but symptoms such as dizziness, drowsiness, and dry mouth may occur, requiring appropriate treatment based on symptoms. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and should not be transferred to another container.
