  • Essential hypertension
View approved original text

This medication is indicated for patients with essential hypertension whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled even with combination therapy of amlodipine and valsartan. Essential hypertension refers to a persistently elevated blood pressure without a specific cause, which can affect heart and vascular health. In such cases, additional treatments or adjustments in medication may be required to manage blood pressure effectively. The therapeutic goal is to reduce blood pressure to within the normal range to minimize the risk of cardiovascular complications. It is essential to work closely with healthcare providers to establish ongoing monitoring and appropriate treatment plans to improve blood pressure control in essential hypertension.

Precautions

This medication may pose a serious risk to the fetus and newborn if taken during pregnancy, particularly in the second and third trimesters; therefore, treatment should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. Patients with impaired liver function or progressive liver disease should be cautious as electrolyte and fluid balance may be altered, which could result in severe symptoms such as hepatic coma. Patients with severe kidney disease should use this medication cautiously, as one of its components, a diuretic, may strain kidney function, increasing the risk of uremia. Patients who are allergic to any ingredients included in this medication or have certain severe liver or kidney diseases, hypotension, pregnant women, and breastfeeding mothers should avoid its use. Especially, patients with severe hypotension, certain heart valve diseases, shock, anuria, or electrolyte imbalances in the blood should not use this medication. Patients with sodium or fluid depletion must normalize their condition before starting this medication and should seek immediate help if symptoms of hypotension occur during treatment. Patients with elevated serum potassium levels or at risk of hyperkalemia should frequently monitor potassium levels when taking this medication along with potassium supplements. Patients with cardiovascular diseases, such as heart failure, myocardial infarction, kidney transplant patients, and those with acute myocardial infarction should be closely monitored while taking this medication. Side effects such as dizziness, headaches, or decreased blood pressure may occur, so caution is needed when driving or operating machinery. Regular monitoring of liver function, kidney function, and electrolyte levels should be conducted during treatment to check for abnormalities. When combined with other medications, interactions may alter efficacy or increase the risk of side effects; therefore, inform your healthcare provider of any medications you are currently taking. In case of overdose, symptoms such as hypotension, shock, and consciousness disturbances may occur; immediate medical attention should be sought, and blood pressure and heart status should be closely monitored in emergencies. Keep this medication out of reach of children and store it in a sealed container, avoiding moisture, heat, and direct sunlight. This medication is not recommended for children under 18 years of age as its safety and effectiveness have not been established. Elderly patients may be more susceptible to dehydration, hypotension, and electrolyte imbalances, so treatment should be started at a lower dose and closely monitored.
