Relief of symptoms associated with allergic skin disorders (chronic idiopathic urticaria)
This medication is used to effectively alleviate symptoms such as itching or rash caused by allergic skin disorders like chronic idiopathic urticaria. It helps reduce discomfort and maintain a pleasant state of skin.
Adults and adolescents aged 12 years and older should take 180 mg of fexofenadine hydrochloride orally once daily before meals with water. Renal impaired patients should take 60 mg of fexofenadine hydrochloride orally once daily before meals as a starting dose.
The safety and efficacy in pediatric patients under 12 years of age have not been established, and thus no dosage is specified.
This medication should not be used in patients with known allergic reactions to this drug or its components. It is safer to avoid administration in patients with renal impairment. Elderly patients or those with cardiovascular disease or a history of cardiovascular disease should exercise caution when using this medication. Possible side effects of this medication may include headache, drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, upper respiratory infections, and back pain; less frequently, fatigue, insomnia, nervousness, sleep disturbances, nightmares, dry mouth, rash, urticaria, and itching may occur. If severe allergic reactions or shock symptoms occur, administration should be stopped immediately and medical attention sought. Since liver function may be affected, if symptoms of liver dysfunction arise, discontinue use of the medication and consult a physician. This medication does not greatly affect driving or machine operation skills, but sensitive individuals should be cautious when using it. Taking this medication with certain antibiotics or antfungals may increase the blood concentration of this drug, but it is not significantly related to an increase in serious side effects. Taking antacids containing aluminum or magnesium hydroxide may reduce the absorption of this medication, so it is recommended to take them about 2 hours apart. Fruit juices like grapefruit juice, orange juice, or apple juice may diminish the effectiveness of this medication, so it is recommended to take it with water. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should consult a doctor regarding the potential risks to the fetus before taking this medication. Nursing women should avoid breastfeeding while taking this medication as it can be passed to the baby through breast milk. Caution is needed in the use of this medication in children, particularly those under 12 years of age, as safety and efficacy have not been adequately established. Elderly patients may require adjustments in dosage and renal function tests due to potential decline in kidney function. If an allergy skin test is to be performed, this medication should be stopped 3 to 5 days prior to ensure accurate testing. No severe toxicity has been reported in case of overdose; however, symptoms such as dizziness, drowsiness, and dry mouth may occur, and appropriate treatment may be required according to symptoms. Keep out of reach of children, and avoid transferring the medication to other containers as it may pose a risk of accidents and degrade quality.
