Improvement of blood glucose control in type 2 diabetes
This medication helps improve blood glucose control in patients with type 2 diabetes. It assists in better blood glucose management when used alongside dietary and exercise therapies. It is especially suitable for improving blood glucose control through the combination use of empagliflozin and linagliptin. Therefore, this medication is used for the treatment of patients with type 2 diabetes.
The recommended starting dose of this medication is 1 time per day of empagliflozin 10 mg/linagliptin 5 mg. If additional blood glucose control is needed and the patient tolerates empagliflozin 10 mg/linagliptin 5 mg, the dose may be increased to 25/5 mg once daily. It can be taken regardless of meals, and the tablets should be swallowed whole. If a dose is missed, it should be taken as soon as remembered,
This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, those with allergies to the active ingredients or constituents of this medication, patients with type 1 diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis patients, and those undergoing dialysis should not take this medication. For patients with impaired renal function, the effects of this medication may vary, so it is important to regularly check renal function before and during treatment. Caution is also needed if other medications that may affect renal function are being taken. Experience with this medication is limited in heart failure patients, so it should be used with caution. There is a risk of acute pancreatitis, so if symptoms such as severe abdominal pain occur, the medication should be stopped immediately and a doctor consulted. A skin condition called bullous pemphigoid may occur, and if blisters or rashes appear on the skin, immediate medical attention from a specialist should be sought. The most common side effect while taking this medication is urinary tract infection, but other side effects may include hypoglycemia, thirst, cough, constipation, itching, rashes, rhabdomyolysis, depletion of blood volume, increased urination, difficulty urinating, increased amylase, increased lipase, increased hematocrit, increased serum lipids, increased blood creatinine, headache, dizziness, drowsiness, weight gain, ECG abnormalities, and decreased hemoglobin. Especially when used alongside insulin or sulfonylureas, the risk of hypoglycemia may increase, so blood glucose levels should be monitored closely. This medication may cause a decrease in fluid volume, so caution is needed in the elderly, those with low blood pressure, or patients with cardiovascular diseases. The risk of genital fungal infections may increase, so treatment should be sought if related symptoms appear. It is advisable not to use this medication during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and especially during breastfeeding, it is recommended to discontinue breastfeeding. The safety and efficacy of this medication have not been established in children under 18 years of age, so it is not recommended. In case of overdose, immediate contact with a medical institution is required for appropriate actions, and it is difficult to remove this medication through blood dialysis. This medication should be stored out of the reach of children and kept in its original container for safety. Finally, caution should be exercised during driving or operating machinery while taking this medication due to the risk of hypoglycemia.
