Precautions

This medication is used for the treatment of diabetes and works by combining two components to control blood sugar levels. When taking this medication, kidney function should be regularly assessed to ensure it is normal, and it should not be used if significantly impaired. In cases of severe infection, dehydration, acute heart failure, etc., this medication should be temporarily discontinued. While taking this medication, hypoglycemia may occur, particularly when used in conjunction with insulin or other blood sugar-lowering agents; hence, care should be taken to observe for hypoglycemic symptoms. There is a rare but serious risk of lactic acidosis; thus, if sudden fatigue, muscle pain, difficulty breathing, or abdominal pain occurs, medical personnel should be informed immediately. Urinary tract infections or genital infections may increase, and prompt treatment should be sought if related symptoms occur. This medication may affect the fetus; therefore, women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not take it and it is also advisable to avoid while breastfeeding. Prior to and post-surgical procedures or imaging tests, this medication should be temporarily discontinued and resumed only after confirming normal kidney function. Elderly individuals or patients at risk of fluid loss should monitor for dehydration and blood pressure fluctuations and ensure regular assessment of kidney function. Overdose of this medication may increase the risk of lactic acidosis, so strict adherence to the prescribed dosage is crucial. It is advisable to avoid alcohol while taking this medication, and since vitamin B12 levels may drop, blood tests should be conducted when necessary to check levels. This medication should be swallowed whole without crushing, breaking, or chewing; it is normal for the tablet coating to be excreted.
