Blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes and prevention of cardiovascular events
This medication helps improve blood sugar control in adult patients with type 2 diabetes through the combined administration of empagliflozin and metformin. It is used as an adjunct to diet and exercise, particularly in patients whose blood sugar levels are not well controlled. The use of this medication is also recommended with caution in patients with type 2 diabetes who have accompanying cardiovascular disease. This medication plays a positive role in effectively managing blood sugar levels and preventing diabetes complications.
This medication should be taken to reduce gastrointestinal side effects associated with metformin, once daily in the evening with food. The 10/1000 mg extended-release tablets or 25/1000 mg extended-release tablets should be taken once daily, one tablet each time. For patients taking the 5/1000 mg extended-release tablets or 12.5/1000 mg extended-release tablets, two tablets should be taken simultaneously once daily.
This medication is used to treat type 2 diabetes and helps lower blood sugar levels. However, there are several important precautions to consider when using this medication. First, rare but serious lactic acidosis may occur, which can be life-threatening, so seek immediate medical advice if symptoms arise. Second, when used with other diabetes medications, there is a risk of hypoglycemia, so blood glucose levels should be closely monitored. Third, this medication should not be used in patients with impaired kidney function, severe infections, dehydration, or acute cardiac problems. Fourth, it should be temporarily discontinued in special situations such as surgery or radiological exams, and resumed only after kidney function has returned to normal. Fifth, it may cause fluid loss or dehydration, so caution is advised in the elderly or patients with low blood pressure. Sixth, there is an increased risk of urinary tract and genital infections, so prompt treatment is necessary if infection symptoms develop. Seventh, vitamin B12 deficiency can occur, so regular blood tests are recommended during long-term use. Eighth, this medication should be avoided in pregnant or potentially pregnant women, as well as in breastfeeding women. Ninth, it is not recommended for children or adolescents under 18 years of age as safety and efficacy have not been established. Lastly, this medication should be swallowed whole without crushing or chewing the tablets, and while the tablet shell may pass in the stool, this is normal. Patients should regularly monitor blood sugar and kidney function according to their physician's directives while using this medication, and seek immediate consultation with the medical team if any abnormal symptoms occur.
