Precautions

This medicine is used for treating diabetes, with two components working together to control blood sugar. Patients with impaired renal function, certain heart diseases, or liver dysfunction should not use this medicine. Moreover, the use of this medicine should be temporarily discontinued in cases of acute infections, dehydration, or before and after surgery, and it should only be resumed once kidney function has returned to normal. This medicine can cause a rare side effect called severe lactic acidosis; if symptoms such as muscle pain, difficulty breathing, or weakness occur, medical personnel should be notified immediately. There is a risk of hypoglycemia when used with insulin or other hypoglycemic agents, so blood sugar levels should be monitored frequently, and dosage adjustments may be necessary. This medicine can increase the risk of urinary tract infections and genital infections, so prompt treatment should be sought if related symptoms appear. Elderly patients or those at risk of decreased fluid volume should be cautious of dehydration and low blood pressure, and should undergo regular kidney function tests. It is advisable that pregnant women, women who may become pregnant, and nursing mothers do not use this medicine. This medicine should be swallowed whole and not crushed or chewed; it is normal for the medication's coating to pass in the stool. Alcohol consumption should be avoided during treatment, and administration should be halted before and after certain imaging tests. During treatment with this medicine, blood sugar control should be continuously monitored, and any unusual symptoms should prompt immediate consultation with a healthcare professional.
