Improvement of hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia
This medicine is used for patients with primary hypercholesterolemia, heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (type IIa), and mixed dyslipidemia (type IIb). It assists when cholesterol control is difficult solely through diet and exercise, serving as an adjunct to dietary therapy. This helps effectively manage blood cholesterol levels, reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases. If taken continuously as appropriate for the patient's health condition, good effects can be expected. Therefore, this drug is actively used in the treatment of hypercholesterolemia.
This drug may be taken at any time of day regardless of meals. The initial dose is 2.5 or 5 milligrams once daily, and if a greater reduction in LDL cholesterol is required, maintenance dosing can be adjusted accordingly. The maintenance dose is 10 milligrams once daily, which is where most patients are adjusted. The maintenance dose should be appropriately adjusted based on LDL cholesterol levels, treatment goals, and patient responses at intervals of 4 weeks or more, and can be increased up to a maximum of 20 milligrams per day. Elderly: Dose adjustment is not necessary. Renal impairment patients: For mild and moderate renal impairment, dose adjustment is not required. This drug must not be administered to patients with severe renal impairment. Caution should be exercised for patients with moderate renal impairment when administering this drug at 20mg. Hepatic impairment patients: There was no increase in systemic exposure to rosuvastatin in patients with Child-Pugh scores of 7 or less, but there was an increase in those with Child-Pugh scores of 8 or 9. Renal function testing should be considered for these patients. There is no experience in administering this drug to patients with Child-Pugh scores exceeding 9. This medication should not be administered to patients with active liver disease. Ethnicity: Systemic exposure to this drug increases in Asian patients, thus the recommended initial dose is 2.5 or 5 milligrams. Dosing at 40 milligrams is contraindicated. Patients susceptible to myopathy: The recommended initial dose for patients prone to myopathy is 2.5 or 5 milligrams. In some of these patients, dosing at 40 milligrams is contraindicated.

Pregnant or nursing women, as well as women of childbearing age not using appropriate contraception, should avoid this drug, and it is only to be administered to women of childbearing age if they are highly unlikely to be pregnant and fully aware of the associated risks to the fetus. Patients at high risk for muscle-related side effects, such as those with moderate renal impairment, hypothyroidism, a history of genetic muscle disorders, alcohol dependence, or certain races (e.g., Asian patients) should avoid high doses of this drug. This drug contains lactose and should not be administered to patients with lactose intolerance or related genetic disorders. Caution should be taken for liver function abnormalities or muscle-related side effects when using this drug. In particular, those who consume large amounts of alcohol or have a history of liver disease should regularly have liver enzyme tests. If symptoms such as muscle pain, weakness, or cramps arise, inform a doctor immediately, and if necessary, check for muscle damage through blood tests. If muscle damage indicators are significantly elevated or symptoms become severe, this drug should be discontinued, and it may be resumed at a lower dose once symptoms improve.
