Precautions

This medication is used for treating diabetes and helps control blood glucose levels. However, it should not be administered to patients with impaired kidney function or liver dysfunction. Additionally, it should be avoided in situations such as acute infections, dehydration, heart diseases, and severe trauma. While taking this medication, there is a risk of hypoglycemia, so caution should be taken when used in combination with insulin or other hypoglycemic agents. Blood glucose levels and kidney function should be regularly monitored during treatment, especially in elderly patients or those with reduced kidney function. This medication can cause a rare but serious side effect known as lactic acidosis; therefore, if symptoms such as weakness, difficulty breathing, or abdominal pain occur, immediate medical attention should be sought. Also, there may be a risk of genital and urinary tract infections, so prompt treatment should be obtained if related symptoms appear. The risk of side effects may increase when this medication is taken with alcohol, so avoiding alcohol is advisable. It is safer for pregnant women or those who may become pregnant not to use this medication, and it should be avoided during breastfeeding. When taking the medication, do not crush or chew the tablets; swallow them whole, although the coating may be visible in the stool, which is normal.
