How to take

Adult dose

Adults: Administer nicergoline 30 mg orally once daily before meals. If the desired effect is not achieved at this dose, it may be increased to 60 mg. The dose may be reduced after symptoms improve. For patients with impaired renal function (serum creatinine >175 µmol/L) (2 mg/dL), administer a reduced dose.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, it is contraindicated in patients allergic to this drug or ergot alkaloids, patients with acute myocardial infarction or acute bleeding, patients currently taking sympathomimetics, patients with very low heart rates, patients not yet stable after intracranial hemorrhage, and patients with orthostatic dysregulation. Additionally, it should be used with caution in patients with mild bradycardia or renal impairment. During treatment, gastrointestinal symptoms such as anorexia, diarrhea, constipation, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain may occasionally appear. Liver enzyme levels may also increase, and rare cardiovascular issues such as dizziness, orthostatic hypotension, blood pressure changes, and elevated blood uric acid may occur. Mentally, symptoms such as drowsiness, lethargy, headache, tinnitus, fatigue, and insomnia may appear, and rare hypersensitivity reactions such as rashes, urticaria, itching, flushing, and heat sensation can occur. When used in combination with other antihypertensive agents, blood pressure may drop too low, so blood pressure should be monitored frequently. Also, as it may affect uric acid metabolism, caution is advised in patients with a history of hyperuricemia or gout. Care should be taken when driving or operating machinery after taking this medication. This drug is metabolized in the liver through a specific enzyme (CYP450 2D6), so interactions may occur when used with other drugs that are related to this enzyme. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should carefully consider the risks and benefits before using this medication, and if breastfeeding, it should be avoided or breastfeeding should be discontinued if possible. Elderly patients may have reduced physical function, so it should be used with caution, possibly at a lower dose, and safety in children has not yet been established. In case of overdose, blood pressure may temporarily drop, so blood pressure changes should be carefully monitored, and appropriate measures should be taken if necessary. Lastly, this medication should be kept out of reach of children and stored tightly in its original container. Transferring it to another container may pose a risk of misuse or deterioration of quality.
