This medication is used to relieve symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, and nasal congestion caused by allergic rhinitis.

How to take

Adult dose

Adults and adolescents aged 12 years and older should take 120 mg of Fexofenadine Hydrochloride once daily before meals with water. Elderly patients and those with liver failure do not require dosage adjustments. Patients with kidney failure should take 60 mg of Fexofenadine Hydrochloride once daily before meals with water as the starting dose.

Child dose

Safety and efficacy for children under 12 years have not been established for this medication.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients who have had allergic reactions to this drug or its components. It should be used with caution in patients with reduced kidney function, the elderly, and those with heart disease or a history of heart disease. The most common side effect when taking this drug is headache, and drowsiness, dizziness, and nausea may also occur. Rarely, hypersensitivity reactions such as fatigue, insomnia, irritability, sleep disturbances, nightmares, skin rash, itching, angioedema, and difficulty breathing may occur, so if any symptoms appear, consult a healthcare professional immediately. Severe allergic reactions such as shock may occur; if symptoms such as difficulty breathing, low blood pressure, or chest pain occur, administration should stop immediately, and emergency treatment should be sought. Liver function abnormalities may develop, so liver function test results should be checked periodically, and if abnormal symptoms appear, medication should be discontinued. This drug can affect the nervous system, causing symptoms such as headache, dizziness, and nausea, so caution should be exercised while driving or operating machinery. This medication is not metabolized in the liver, so the risk of interaction with liver-metabolized drugs is low; however, caution is required when taken with certain antibiotics or antifungal agents, as blood concentrations may increase. Taking antacids containing aluminum or magnesium hydroxide may reduce the absorption of this medication, so the timing of antacid administration should be adjusted around 2 hours before or after taking this medication. Fruit juices such as grapefruit juice, orange juice, and apple juice may reduce the effectiveness of this medication; therefore, it is best to take it with water. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should consult a physician before taking this medication, and breastfeeding women are advised to avoid taking it. Safety and effectiveness have not been established for children under 12 years and low birth weight infants, so use is not recommended. Elderly patients may have reduced kidney function, so dosage adjustments may be necessary, and regular assessments of kidney function are advisable. To obtain accurate results, this medication should be discontinued 3-5 days prior to specific clinical tests such as allergy testing.
