This medication is used for the treatment of moderate to severe Alzheimer's disease.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication is taken orally once a day at the same time each day. If necessary, it may be taken twice a day. Adult dosage increase: The maximum daily dose is 20 mg, and it should be increased by 5 mg weekly over the first 3 weeks. - First week (days 1-7): Administer 5 mg once daily - Second week (days 8-14): Administer 10 mg once daily - Third week (days 15-21): Administer 15 mg once daily -

Precautions

This medication should not be administered to patients with an allergy to its components. Patients with very poor liver or kidney function should also not use this medication. Administration is prohibited, particularly in cases of severely impaired kidney function. Caution should be exercised when using this medication in patients with epilepsy, those who have previously experienced seizures, or those at risk of seizures. Concomitant use with medications that have similar effects, such as amantadine, ketamine, and dextromethorphan, may increase the risk of side effects; therefore, such combinations should be avoided. Patients who have factors or conditions that affect urinary acidity (pH) should be closely monitored while taking this medication. In patients with recent myocardial infarction, heart failure, or uncontrolled hypertension, the safety of this medication has not been sufficiently proven, so it should be administered with caution. Patients allergic to the dye Yellow No. 5 included in this medication should also be cautious. Side effects such as dizziness, headache, constipation, drowsiness, and hypertension may occur, and if these symptoms are severe, a physician should be consulted. In addition, psychiatric adverse reactions or neurological symptoms like hallucinations and confusion may rarely appear. This medication may interact with other drugs, so if you are taking other medications, it is essential to inform your physician or pharmacist. Caution is particularly necessary when taken with anticholinergic drugs, antipsychotic drugs, skeletal muscle relaxants, and anticoagulants. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should carefully consider the risks and benefits of using this medication, and it is advisable to stop breastfeeding if nursing. This medication is not to be used in children or adolescents under 18 years of age, as its safety and efficacy have not been established.
