This medication is used to relieve symptoms such as sneezing, nasal congestion, and runny nose caused by allergic rhinitis.

How to take

Adult dose

Adults and adolescents aged 12 years and older should take 120 mg of fexofenadine hydrochloride orally once daily before meals with water. Elderly patients and those with liver failure do not require dosage adjustments. Patients with renal failure should take an initial dose of 60 mg orally once daily before meals with water.

Child dose

The safety and efficacy of this medication have not been established in children under 12 years of age.

Precautions

This medication should not be used by patients who have shown allergic reactions to this medication or its components. Patients with impaired kidney function, elderly patients, and those with heart disease or a history of heart disease should use this medication with caution. The most common side effect of this medication is headache, and other possible side effects include drowsiness, dizziness, and nausea. Rarely, symptoms such as fatigue, insomnia, nervousness, sleep disturbances, nightmares, skin rash, hives, itching, angioedema, difficulty breathing, skin flushing, and systemic hypersensitivity reactions may occur; if these symptoms occur, consult a doctor immediately. Severe allergic reactions such as shock may occur; if symptoms such as difficulty breathing, low blood pressure, chest pain, or skin redness appear, discontinue the medication immediately and seek medical assistance. Liver function abnormalities may occur; if liver enzyme levels rise or jaundice symptoms appear, discontinue the medication and consult a doctor. This medication can affect the nervous system, leading to symptoms such as headache, dizziness, and nausea, so caution is advised. When driving or operating machinery, it is advisable to check individual responses to this medication before determining safety. This medication is not metabolized by the liver, so the potential for drug interactions due to liver metabolism is low, but caution is advised when taken with certain antibiotics or antifungals as they may increase serum concentrations. When taken with antacids containing aluminum or magnesium hydroxide, a minimum interval of 2 hours should be observed to prevent interference with the absorption of this medication. Taking this medication with grapefruit juice, orange juice, or apple juice may reduce its effectiveness, so it is recommended to take it with water.
