This medication is administered twice daily with meals. To reduce gastrointestinal side effects associated with metformin, dosage increases should be gradual. 1. If not previously treated with metformin: The initial dose is 2.5/500 mg of this medication taken twice daily, with a maximum increase possible to 2.5/1000 mg twice daily. 2. Precautions

This medication can cause a rare but serious side effect called lactic acidosis, so it should not be administered to individuals with poor kidney function or acute illness. It should not be used in patients with an allergy to any of its components, those with type 1 diabetes, pregnant or breastfeeding women, or patients with severe liver dysfunction. There is a risk of hypoglycemia, particularly when used alongside sulfonylureas or insulin; blood glucose levels should be monitored closely. Patients with reduced kidney function should regularly have blood tests to assess kidney status and should not take this medication if kidney function falls below a certain level. Rare skin conditions such as acute pancreatitis or bullous pemphigoid may occur; patients experiencing persistent abdominal pain or unusual skin symptoms should consult a doctor immediately. This medication may lower vitamin B12 levels; long-term users should be tested for vitamin B12 deficiency and supplemented as needed. Alcohol consumption may increase the risk of lactic acidosis; it is advisable to avoid alcohol while taking this medication. If contrast agents are required for radiological examinations, the medication should be discontinued for a certain period before and after the tests, and kidney function should be assessed. Elderly patients or those with impaired kidney function should have their dosage adjusted and monitor kidney function regularly. Pregnant women or those planning to become pregnant should preferably avoid using this medication; insulin therapy is recommended if blood glucose control is necessary. The safety and efficacy of this medication have not been established in children and adolescents, so use in this population is not recommended. There is insufficient data on the effects of this medication on driving or operating machinery, thus caution is warranted during such activities. In cases of overdose, gastrointestinal disturbances or lactic acidosis may occur; if any adverse symptoms arise, prompt medical attention is required. Store this medication out of the reach of children, away from moisture, and in its original container.
