Adult dose

This medicine is administered twice daily with food. To reduce gastrointestinal side effects associated with metformin, dosage increases should be done gradually. 1. For patients not currently on metformin treatment: This medicine 2.5/500 mg is taken twice a day, one tablet at a time, and can be increased to 2.5/1000 mg, one tablet twice daily. 2. For patients unable to control blood sugar levels with metformin monotherapy.

This medicine assists in controlling blood sugar levels. However, during treatment, there is a risk of rare side effects, such as lactic acidosis, which can lead to a serious condition due to excessive accumulation of lactic acid in the body. There are situations in which this medicine should not be taken. For instance, patients with allergies to any of its components, those with type 1 diabetes, severe renal impairment, acute infections or dehydration, severely impaired liver function, acute alcohol intoxication, pregnant or breastfeeding women, etc. should not use this medication. While taking this medicine, beware of the risk of hypoglycemia. Especially when used in conjunction with sulfonylureas or insulin, hypoglycemic symptoms may appear, so frequent monitoring of blood sugar levels is necessary, and dosage adjustments may be needed. Patients with impaired renal function should regularly undergo renal function tests before starting this medicine, and those with severely reduced renal function should not take it. Patients with compromised cardiac function should periodically check their heart and renal function while on this medicine and immediately discontinue use and consult a doctor if acute pancreatitis or blistering similar to dermatitis appears. This medicine may cause gastrointestinal side effects such as digestive disorders, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and vomiting, and may lead to vitamin B12 deficiency, so it is advisable to check B12 levels through blood tests during long-term use. Avoiding alcohol is suggested as it may increase the risk of lactic acidosis. Additionally, this medicine may interact with other medications, so if taking other drugs, it is crucial to inform your doctor or pharmacist, especially when using drugs that may affect renal function. It is safest for pregnant or breastfeeding women not to take this medicine, and those planning to become pregnant should consult a doctor to determine appropriate treatment options. The safety and efficacy of this medicine in children and adolescents have not been established, so its usage is not recommended in this population. Elderly patients are at higher risk for renal function decline and should take the lowest effective dose while monitoring their kidney function frequently. The effects of this medicine on driving or operating machinery are unclear, so caution is advised. In cases of overdose, the medication may not be absorbed properly in the gastrointestinal tract, and there is a risk of lactic acidosis; immediate medical attention should be sought. Hemodialysis may help treat lactic acidosis. Store this medicine out of reach of children and keep it in a sealed container away from moisture, ideally in its original packaging. Patients with mitochondrial diseases or suspected conditions should avoid this medicine, and if related symptoms occur, discontinue use immediately and seek diagnosis.
