For the 5/1000 mg extended-release tablet, the dose is one tablet taken once daily. Patients taking the 2.5/1000 mg extended-release tablet should take two tablets simultaneously once daily. 1. If not currently treated with Metformin: The initial dose of this medication is a total daily amount of Linagliptin 5 mg and Metformin Hydrochloride 1000 mg, of which the maximum recommended daily dosage for Metformin Hydrochloride is 2000 mg.
This medication consists of two ingredients, Metformin and Linagliptin, and is primarily used for the treatment of Type 2 diabetes. When taking this medication, there is a rare risk of a serious metabolic complication called lactic acidosis, so caution is advised, especially in patients with poor kidney function or acute illnesses. In addition, it should not be administered to patients allergic to the components of this medication or those with specific conditions such as Type 1 diabetes, severe renal impairment, liver dysfunction, acute alcohol intoxication, or heart failure. Due to the risk of hypoglycemia, blood sugar levels should be monitored carefully when used with other antidiabetic medications or insulin, and dosage adjustments may be necessary. This medication requires periodic blood tests to check kidney function both before and during use, and it is not to be used if kidney function is severely impaired. Acute pancreatitis or skin blistering disorders may occur, so if abdominal pain or skin abnormalities develop during use, immediate consultation with healthcare professionals is necessary. Vitamin B12 levels may decrease with prolonged use, so patients taking this medication long-term should regularly monitor their Vitamin B12 levels. Do not crush or chew the tablets; they should be swallowed whole, although the tablet shell may be observed in the stool, which is normal. There are medications that can interact with this drug, so inform healthcare professionals of any other medications being taken, especially those that may affect kidney function. It is advisable to avoid this medication during pregnancy or while breastfeeding, and patients planning to become pregnant should consult healthcare providers for appropriate treatment options. Elderly patients commonly experience decreased kidney function, so kidney function should be monitored frequently, and dosage adjustments are necessary when using this medication. It is important to consult a physician or pharmacist immediately if any unusual symptoms or discomfort arise during treatment.
Urticaria, angioedema, lactic acidosis, pancreatitis, pseudo-pemphigus, liver function abnormalities (liver function impairment, hepatitis), cardiac issues (angina, acute myocardial infarction, unstable angina, cardiac arrest, congestive heart failure), respiratory issues (dyspnea, asthma), nervous system abnormalities (cerebral infarction, subdural effusion, severe and debilitating arthralgia, rhabdomyolysis), severe allergic reactions, severe edema or urinary abnormalities (systemic edema).
