This drug is used for seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis, chronic idiopathic urticaria, and pruritus.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

Adults and children aged 12 years and older are to take 10mg of cetirizine hydrochloride orally once daily. For patients sensitive to adverse reactions, it may be divided into morning and evening doses. The dosage may be adjusted based on age and symptoms. Patients with renal impairment should have their dosage interval adjusted according to their renal function, and dosage adjustments based on creatinine clearance are necessary.

Children's dosage

Precautions

This medication should not be taken by individuals allergic to hydroxyzine or piperazine derivatives or with a history of hypersensitivity. Patients with severely impaired renal function, pregnant or potentially pregnant women, breastfeeding women, infants under 2 years old, and patients with fructose intolerance should also avoid using this medication. While taking this medicine, certain drugs, such as theophylline or ritonavir, should not be taken concurrently, as interactions may occur. Breastfeeding is not recommended while taking this medication, as it may be secreted in small amounts through breast milk. Additionally, excessive alcohol consumption should be avoided while taking this medication, and it is advisable not to combine it with other antihistamines. Patients with reduced kidney or liver function, the elderly, epilepsy patients, and those at risk for seizures should consult a doctor or pharmacist before taking this medication. This drug may aggravate conditions where urine is not excreted properly, so caution is advised for people with urinary retention disorders like spinal cord injury or prostatic hyperplasia. If unusual symptoms such as confusion, headache, drowsiness, dizziness, irregular heartbeat, rash occur during use, stop taking the medication immediately and consult a healthcare professional. It is advisable to stop this medication before allergy testing, and caution is required when driving or operating machinery. Food may slow absorption of this drug, but it does not affect the amount absorbed. Finally, this medication should be kept out of reach of children and stored in its original container, and it is safe not to use it for more than 3 months after opening.
