How to take

Adult dose

The recommended starting dose of this medication is 10 mg Empagliflozin/5 mg Linagliptin once daily. If additional blood sugar control is needed and the patient has tolerated the 10 mg Empagliflozin/5 mg Linagliptin dose, the dosage may be increased to 25 mg/5 mg once daily. This medication can be taken regardless of meals. The tablet should be swallowed whole. If a dose is missed, it should be taken as soon as remembered.

Precautions

This medication contains two active ingredients, Empagliflozin and Linagliptin, and is primarily used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. Empagliflozin works by preventing the reabsorption of sugar in the kidneys, promoting the excretion of sugar in urine, thus lowering blood sugar levels, while Linagliptin enhances insulin secretion, aiding in blood sugar control. However, this medication should not be used by patients with type 1 diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis, or those undergoing dialysis. Caution should be exercised when administering to patients with impaired renal function, and it is important to regularly monitor kidney function before and after administration. The use of this medication is not recommended for patients with severe heart failure, thus special attention is required. Moreover, rare side effects such as acute pancreatitis or blistering dermatosis may occur while taking this medication, and if symptoms such as abdominal pain or skin abnormalities arise, immediate consultation with healthcare professionals is necessary. The most common side effect of this medication is urinary tract infection, which may occur more frequently in women. The risk of hypoglycemia is low when this medication is used alone, but may increase when used with other hypoglycemic agents such as insulin or sulfonylureas, necessitating careful monitoring of blood sugar levels. Low blood pressure may occur due to fluid loss, thus patients undergoing treatment for hypertension, those with hypotension, and elderly patients over 75 years old should exercise particular caution. This medication may increase the risk of genital fungal infections, so appropriate treatment is needed if related symptoms develop. The use of this medication during pregnancy is not recommended, and it is advisable to discontinue breastfeeding while on this medication. Safety and efficacy in children and adolescents under 18 years of age have not been established, so its use is discouraged in these populations. Although tolerability is relatively good in the event of overdose, patients should immediately inform healthcare professionals if symptoms occur and receive necessary treatment. Lastly, this medication should be stored out of reach of children and kept in its original container for safety.
