Precautions

This medication is a diabetes treatment that helps control blood sugar. It can cause a rare but severe side effect known as lactic acidosis, so it should not be administered to patients with poor kidney function or severe infections, dehydration, or heart problems. Additionally, when used together with insulin or other blood sugar-lowering medications, hypoglycemia symptoms may occur, so caution is needed. This medication can be affected by kidney function, requiring regular kidney function tests before and during treatment. Particularly, in patients with severely reduced kidney function or those with acute illness or undergoing surgery, it should be avoided or temporarily discontinued. This medication may increase the risk of urinary tract infections and genital infections, so if any infection symptoms occur, consult healthcare professionals immediately. During treatment, gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain may occur, and hypoglycemia symptoms should also be monitored. It is safer for pregnant or breastfeeding women to avoid using this medication. Alcohol intake may increase the risk of side effects from this medication, thus it should be avoided. Elderly patients or those with poor nutritional status also require special caution when taking this medication. Patients taking this medication should have regular blood tests and kidney function tests, and any unusual symptoms should be discussed with a doctor immediately. Finally, patients taking this medication should store it out of reach of children and keep it in its original container.
