How to take

Adult dose

This medication is typically administered once daily with the evening meal. The maximum dosage is 1 time daily with dapagliflozin 10 mg/extented-release metformin 2000 mg. When used as an initial therapy, the recommended starting dose is 5 mg/500 mg or 10 mg/500 mg once daily. To minimize gastrointestinal side effects of metformin, the dose should be gradually adjusted. This medication should be swallowed whole and not crushed or cut.

Precautions

This medication is used to control blood sugar. It can rarely cause a serious condition known as lactic acidosis, so patients with impaired kidney function, severe infections, dehydration, or heart problems should not use it. Also, caution is needed when used with insulin or sulfonylureas due to the risk of hypoglycemia. Patients with reduced kidney function or elderly patients, as well as those with decreased fluid volume, must evaluate kidney function and fluid status before administration and continuously monitor during treatment. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not take this medication, nor should patients with genetic issues such as lactose intolerance. This medication may increase the risk of genital and urinary infections, so if symptoms of infection appear, consult a doctor immediately. Vitamin B12 deficiency may occur, so regular monitoring of blood vitamin B12 levels is recommended during long-term use. Excessive alcohol should be avoided while taking this medication, and if symptoms such as sudden weight loss, severe abdominal pain, vomiting, or shortness of breath occur, notify healthcare professionals immediately. In cases of surgery or radioactive iodine contrast tests, the medication should be stopped 48 hours prior to the test and can be resumed only after kidney function is confirmed to be normal. This medication may cause dehydration or hypotension, so particularly for elderly patients or those on diuretics, blood pressure and fluid status should be closely monitored. In case of overdose, seek medical attention immediately for appropriate treatment, and dialysis may be helpful if necessary. During treatment, dizziness or hypoglycemic symptoms may occur, so caution is advised when driving or operating machinery. Finally, this medication should be kept out of reach of children and stored in the original container to prevent misuse or degradation of quality.
