How to take

Adult dose

In the treatment of patients with type 2 diabetes, dosages should be individualized based on efficacy and tolerance, not exceeding 100 mg of vildagliptin and 2000 mg of metformin. 1. For patients without prior experience in diabetes medication treatment and who have difficulty in blood sugar control with monotherapy, the initial dosage is one tablet of this medication 50/500 mg once daily, which can be gradually increased to one tablet 50/1000 mg twice daily.

Precautions

This medication is used to assist with blood sugar control, specifically for patients with type 2 diabetes. This medication should only be administered to patients with normal kidney function and should not be used in patients with moderate to severe renal impairment. It should also not be administered to patients whose kidney function has rapidly deteriorated due to acute cardiac events or sepsis. Patients with congestive heart failure, those undergoing examinations involving radiologic iodine contrast, type 1 diabetes patients, and those with acute metabolic acidosis should not be treated with this medication. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not take this medication. During treatment with this medication, a serious side effect known as lactic acidosis can occur, so if any symptoms such as sudden shortness of breath, abdominal pain, muscle cramps, or weakness appear, medical attention should be sought immediately. Patients with liver dysfunction are also advised against using this medication and should undergo regular liver function tests. This medication can cause hypoglycemia, so special caution is required when meals are irregular, vigorous exercise is performed, or when used with other hypoglycemic agents. Regular checks of blood sugar, kidney function, liver function, and vitamin B12 levels should be conducted to ensure there are no anomalies. Alcohol consumption can increase the risk of lactic acidosis, so it is advisable to avoid alcohol while taking this medication. If you are scheduled for surgery, you should stop taking the medication 48 hours before the procedure and resume it only after normal kidney function is confirmed post-surgery. This medication is not recommended for children and adolescents under 18 years of age. Older adults may experience reduced kidney function, so dose adjustments and regular kidney function tests are necessary. In the event of an overdose, you should seek medical attention immediately as this medication can be removed by hemodialysis, which is an important consideration in emergencies. While taking this medication, you should carefully observe for unusual symptoms such as skin blisters or ulcers, and if any such symptoms occur, consult your doctor immediately. Additionally, this medication can cause dizziness affecting driving or operating machinery, so caution is needed.
