Summary

Main use
Improvement of blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
Who takes it
Adults
Adult dose
Take one tablet once daily, regardless of meals. Do not split the tablet. For patients who do not achieve adequate blood sugar control with metformin and dapagliflozin, the recommended starting dose is dapagliflozin 10 mg/pioglitazone 15 mg once daily. The dose may be increased to 10/30 mg once daily depending on tolerability and response in blood sugar control. For patients switching to this medication from combined therapy with dapagliflozin and pioglitazone, administer the current doses. Be particularly cautious for weight gain, edema, or signs and symptoms of congestive heart failure related to fluid retention observed with pioglitazone when initiating treatment with this medication or increasing the dose. Special populations: It is recommended to periodically assess kidney function before and after administering this medication. IfEstimated Glomerular Filtration Rate (eGFR) is above 45 mL/min/1.73 m², no dose adjustment is necessary based on kidney function. If eGFR is below 45 mL/min/1.73 m², this medication should not be administered.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients with heart failure or a history of heart failure. The medication may present symptoms or signs of heart failure, such as sudden weight gain, shortness of breath, or swelling, which should be reported to a healthcare professional immediately if they occur. It should not be used in patients with active bladder cancer or a history of bladder cancer, and any symptoms such as bleeding during urination or urgency should be immediately reported to a doctor. This medication should be avoided in patients with severely impaired liver function, and if there are symptoms of liver disease or significantly elevated liver function test results, it is essential to stop the use of this medication and consult a healthcare provider. Patients with severely impaired kidney function, particularly those on dialysis, should not use this medication. This medication is not indicated for patients with type 1 diabetes or those experiencing diabetic ketoacidosis or diabetic coma. For patients undergoing surgery, severe infections, or significant trauma, insulin injections for blood sugar management are more appropriate, and the use of this medication is not recommended. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not take this medication. This medication contains lactose, so patients with lactose intolerance or related genetic disorders should not use it. Caution should be exercised when administering this medication to patients at risk of reduced fluid volume, low blood pressure, or worsening kidney function, and fluid status and kidney function should be monitored regularly before and after administration. Patients should be aware of hypoglycemic symptoms during treatment, especially when taking other diabetes medications concurrently, such as insulin or sulfonylureas, as this can increase the risk of hypoglycemia. This medication can cause weight gain and swelling; therefore, if weight changes or symptoms of swelling occur, consultation with a healthcare professional is advised. There is a risk of genital infections or urinary tract infections, so if any infection symptoms appear, immediate treatment should be sought. Rarely, adverse reactions such as liver dysfunction, hepatitis, rash, headache, or dizziness may occur; any persistent or worsening abnormal symptoms should be discussed with a doctor. During treatment with this medication, it is essential to have regular blood tests, liver function tests, and kidney function tests to monitor for abnormalities.
