Precautions
This medication contains both sitagliptin and metformin, which help regulate blood sugar levels.
First, sitagliptin may rarely cause allergic reactions, so if symptoms such as skin rash or difficulty breathing occur, it should be discontinued immediately.
Additionally, there is a risk of acute pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas, so if symptoms such as abdominal pain or vomiting occur, careful observation is necessary.
Metformin can cause a rare side effect known as severe lactic acidosis, which occurs when lactic acid accumulates excessively in the body, leading to a dangerous condition; symptoms include muscle pain, weakness, and difficulty breathing. If these symptoms appear, consult a doctor immediately, and it should not be administered to patients with impaired kidney function.
This medication should not be used in patients with moderately to severely impaired kidney function, those with acute heart disease, patients with severely compromised liver function, or women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
During use, it is important to avoid irregular meals or intense exercise, and caution should be exercised regarding blood sugar changes if taken with other medications.
Also, hypoglycemia may occur; therefore, especially when taking it concurrently with insulin or sulfonylureas, blood sugar levels should be checked frequently and symptoms should be monitored.
While taking this medication, regular kidney function and blood tests should be conducted, and since vitamin B12 levels may decrease, supplementation may be necessary.
Consumption of alcohol should be avoided, especially in conditions of impaired liver function, as the risk of lactic acidosis increases.
If surgery is planned, the medication should be temporarily stopped 48 hours before the surgery and resumed only after kidney function is confirmed to be normal post-surgery.
If blisters appear on the skin or severe joint pain occurs, notify a doctor immediately and stop taking this medication.
Lastly, this medication should not be used in individuals under 18 years or in pregnant or nursing women due to lack of established safety.
