Improvement in blood sugar control for type 2 diabetes
This medication is used to improve blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be administered alone or in combination with other treatments to complement dietary guidance and exercise therapy. This helps to manage blood sugar levels reliably and improve diabetes symptoms.
The standard dosage for this drug, either as monotherapy or in combination therapy, is one 100 mg tablet once daily, with a maximum daily dose of 100 mg. For patients with renal impairment, dosage adjustments are necessary according to renal function. In mild to moderate renal impairment patients (eGFR 45 to less than 90), no dosage adjustment is necessary. This medication can cause severe allergic reactions; if you notice sudden skin rashes, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or neck after taking this medication, stop taking it immediately and consult a doctor. While taking this medication, there is a possibility of developing a serious condition called pancreatitis, which is an inflammation of the pancreas, so if symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting appear, inform healthcare personnel immediately. This medication should not be used in patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis, and patients who have had severe allergic reactions to this drug or its components should avoid it. Patients with impaired kidney function may experience delayed excretion of this medication, so they should take a lower dose than prescribed by their doctor and have regular kidney function tests. There is a risk of hypoglycemia when used alone or in combination with other diabetes medications, so if symptoms of hypoglycemia such as dizziness, cold sweat, or tremor occur, appropriate measures should be taken immediately. Symptoms such as headaches, upper respiratory infections, nasopharyngitis, diarrhea, and abdominal pain may occur during treatment. If these symptoms are severe or persistent, consulting a doctor is recommended. Safety during pregnancy has not been established, so pregnant women should avoid using this medication, and nursing women should also refrain from its use, as this medication may be secreted in breast milk. Safety and effectiveness in children and adolescents under 18 years of age have not been adequately studied, so its use in this age group is not recommended. Elderly patients are more likely to have decreased kidney function, which may require dosage adjustments; therefore, it is important to undergo regular kidney function tests during treatment. In case of overdose, seek medical treatment immediately, as this medication can be partially removed by hemodialysis, and dialysis treatment may be considered in severe overdose cases. If symptoms such as joint pain or skin blistering appear while taking this medication, inform a doctor immediately and stop taking it.
