View approved original text

This medication helps improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes by combining dapagliflozin and metformin. It is used as an adjunct to diet and exercise in patients whose blood sugar is not well controlled, and is particularly effective when blood sugar levels are insufficiently regulated. Additionally, consideration should be given to its impact on cardiovascular events for patients with existing cardiovascular disease or risk factors, so consulting a specialist is essential. This medication enhances blood sugar control and assists in managing type 2 diabetes.

Adult dose

This medication is generally administered once daily with dinner. The maximum dose is dapagliflozin 10mg extended-release metformin 2000mg once daily, administered in two tablets of 5mg/1000mg. Recommended starting dosage when used as initial therapy is one tablet of 5mg/500mg or 10mg/500mg once daily. Precautions

This medication helps control blood sugar levels. However, it can rarely cause a serious condition known as lactic acidosis; hence, it should not be used in patients with poor kidney function or severe infections or dehydration. Additionally, caution is needed when used with insulin or other diabetes medications, as there is a risk of hypoglycemia. It should not be administered to patients with moderate to severe renal impairment, liver dysfunction, or to women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. This medication should be temporarily discontinued before surgery or examinations using iodine contrast agents, and resumed only after kidney function has been confirmed as normal. Use in elderly patients or those with reduced fluid volume or at risk of low blood pressure should be done cautiously, with periodic monitoring of blood pressure and kidney function. During treatment with this medication, genital infections or urinary tract infections may occur, and should be promptly treated upon symptom onset. Additionally, vitamin B12 deficiency may occur, so routine blood tests are recommended to monitor levels. Excessive alcohol consumption can increase the risk of side effects of this medication, so it should be avoided. This medication is contraindicated during pregnancy, and should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. The use in children or elderly patients over 80 years is not recommended, and kidney function must be checked in elderly patients. In case of overdose, it is imperative to seek medical attention immediately. Lastly, this medication should be kept out of reach of children and stored in its original container.
