How to take

The dosage of this medication should be personalized based on efficacy and tolerability, not exceeding vildagliptin 100 mg and metformin 2000 mg. Daily doses of vildagliptin exceeding 100 mg are not recommended. Generally, administering this medication with food or just after meals may reduce gastrointestinal side effects associated with metformin. 1. For patients with no prior experience of diabetes medication treatment and inadequate blood sugar control with monotherapy:

Precautions

This medication is used to control blood sugar. It should not be used in patients with impaired kidney function. If kidney function is decreased, the drug can accumulate in the body and lead to serious side effects. Patients with weakened heart function, severe infections, severe trauma, or malnutrition should also be cautious. In such scenarios, it may be necessary to temporarily discontinue the medication. Before surgery, this medication should be stopped at least 48 hours before, and it can be resumed only after verifying that kidney function is normal post-surgery. It is safest for pregnant women, those who may become pregnant, and breastfeeding mothers not to take this medication. This drug may cause serious side effects such as hypoglycemia or lactic acidosis. Lactic acidosis is rare but can be life-threatening; symptoms such as weakness, abdominal pain, and difficulty breathing should prompt immediate medical attention. Additionally, excessive alcohol consumption should be avoided while taking this medication, as alcohol can increase the risk of lactic acidosis. Interactions may occur when this drug is taken with certain medications; therefore, it is essential to inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking other medications. Regular monitoring of kidney and liver function tests is recommended while on this medication, and periodic checks of vitamin B12 levels are advisable. Dizziness or drowsiness may occur; therefore, caution should be taken when driving or operating machinery.
