Precautions

This medication contains sitagliptin and metformin and is used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. During the use of this medication, allergic reactions may occur; if symptoms such as skin rash, hives, or difficulty breathing appear, discontinue use immediately and consult a physician. Acute pancreatitis, a serious inflammation of the pancreas, may occur, so if symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, or fever arise, inform medical personnel promptly. This medication should not be used in patients with severe renal impairment or in acute disease states. Patients with decreased kidney function should use this medication cautiously and undergo regular kidney function tests. It is safer for pregnant women or those who may become pregnant, and nursing mothers not to take this medication. This medication can cause hypoglycemia, so blood sugar levels should be monitored closely, especially when taken with insulin or sulfonylurea medications. Rare but very serious metabolic disorders, such as lactic acidosis, may occur; symptoms such as muscle pain, weakness, difficulty breathing, abdominal pain, and changes in consciousness require immediate hospital visits. Alcohol consumption may increase the risk of lactic acidosis, thus it's advisable to avoid drinking during the use of this medication. If undergoing surgery, stop taking this medication 48 hours before the procedure, and resume after the oral intake has recovered to normal and kidney function is confirmed. This medication contains coloring agents, so patients with a history of allergy to such components should be cautious. Safety and efficacy in children and adolescents under 18 years of age have not been sufficiently confirmed, so its use is not recommended. Elderly patients may have decreased kidney function, necessitating dosage adjustments and regular monitoring of renal function. In cases of overdose, immediate medical attention should be sought, and if necessary, blood dialysis may be used to remove the drug. Regular blood sugar checks and ongoing assessments of kidney function and hematological tests during the use of this medication are important.
