Precautions

This medication contains both Sitagliptin and Metformin and is used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. First, a severe allergic reaction may occur while taking this medication; therefore, if you experience symptoms such as skin rash, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or neck, you should stop taking the medication immediately and consult a doctor. In addition, this medication can cause inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis), so if you experience symptoms like abdominal pain, vomiting, or nausea, you should inform medical personnel immediately. Due to the Metformin component, a rare but potentially life-threatening condition known as lactic acidosis may occur, so if you experience sudden difficulty breathing, muscle pain, fatigue, or abdominal pain, stop taking this medication immediately and visit a hospital. Patients with poor kidney function, severe infections, dehydration, heart failure, acute myocardial infarction, or sepsis should not take this medication. You should also temporarily stop taking this medication before and after tests using iodine-based contrast agents, and restart only after confirming normal kidney function after the test. It is safer not to take this medication during pregnancy or if you are possibly pregnant, and nursing mothers should also avoid it. Be cautious of the risk of hypoglycemia when your meal intake is irregular or insufficient or when engaging in vigorous exercise while on this medication. The symptoms of hypoglycemia may be more pronounced if taken with other glucose-lowering agents. Additionally, patients with impaired liver function or who excessively consume alcohol should avoid taking this medication as well. Regular monitoring of kidney function and blood tests should be performed to ensure the safety of using this medication, and periodic checks of vitamin B12 levels are recommended. If undergoing surgery, you should stop taking this medication 48 hours before the surgery and restart after confirming normal kidney function post-surgery and when oral intake has resumed. Finally, caution is necessary when performing activities that require alertness, such as operating machinery or driving, due to the possibility of hypoglycemia or lactic acidosis from taking this medication. Lastly, while taking this medication, there is a possibility of drug interactions, so it is essential to inform your doctor or pharmacist of any other medications you are taking.
