Improvement of hypercholesterolemia (primary, mixed) and treatment of dyslipidemia
This medication is used for patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia. It helps reduce levels of total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, Apo B protein, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol in the blood. At the same time, it has the effect of increasing the level of HDL cholesterol, the good cholesterol. Through these actions, it contributes to improving blood lipid levels and reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases. It is effective as an adjunct to dietary therapy. Therefore, it is used for the improvement of hypercholesterolemia and dyslipidemia.
This medication is administered once daily regardless of meals. The initial recommended dose is 2/10 mg once daily. If the LDL cholesterol reduction effect is insufficient, the dose may be increased up to a maximum of 4/10 mg once daily. Dose adjustments should be made appropriately based on the patient's response, at intervals of 4 weeks or longer. For patients with liver dysfunction, the initial recommended dose is 1 mg once daily, and during initial treatment with this drug.
This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, it should not be administered to patients who are allergic to this medication, those with active liver disease, those with severe liver dysfunction or biliary obstruction, and those currently taking cyclosporine. Additionally, it is not recommended for patients with myopathy, for women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, for nursing women, and for children due to lack of experience. This medication contains lactose, so individuals with lactose intolerance or galactose metabolism disorders should not take it. Patients with impaired liver function, those who consume excessive alcohol, those with kidney function abnormalities, those with hypothyroidism or a history of muscle-related diseases, and the elderly should use this medication with caution. Particularly, when taken with fibrates or niacin, the risk of muscle damage may increase, so co-administration should be avoided or done carefully. This medication may cause various adverse reactions such as muscle pain, weakness, enzyme elevation in blood tests, etc., so any unusual symptoms should be reported to a healthcare professional immediately. Due to potential liver function abnormalities, liver function tests should be performed regularly before and during treatment. This medication should not be used by women who are pregnant or breastfeeding as it may harm the fetus or neonate, and it should be discontinued immediately if pregnancy is planned or confirmed. For children, it is generally recommended not to use due to lack of confirmed safety and efficacy. For the elderly, dosing adjustment is not necessary, but careful observation is required as they may experience side effects due to declining bodily functions. This medication may interact with other drugs, so caution is needed when used particularly with cyclosporine, fibrates, niacin, antibiotics, and anticoagulants. In case of overdose, there is no specific antidote, so treatment should be symptomatic, and liver function and muscle-related tests should be performed continuously. Finally, this medication should be kept out of reach of children and should not be transferred to other containers to ensure safety and maintain quality.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication is sensitive to light and should be stored in an opaque container, preferably at room temperature between 1 and 30 degrees. Storing it this way helps maintain the efficacy and safety of the drug.
