Bowel cleansing effect for pre-procedural preparation for colon examinations
This medication is used to cleanse the bowel thoroughly before a colon X-ray examination or endoscopy. It helps to ensure that the bowel is clean for accurate examination results. Therefore, it is a medication used for bowel cleansing before examinations.
In adults, it is taken in a divided dose method. 1) The day before the examination: Take 160 tablets of this medication with 473 mL of water in the early evening, followed by two additional doses of 473 mL of water over the course of one hour. 2) On the day of the examination: On the morning of the examination day, take 160 tablets of this medication with 473 mL of water after at least 10-12 hours have passed since taking the medication the evening before, followed by two additional doses of 473 mL of water over the course of one hour.
This medication should not be used in patients who are allergic to this drug or its ingredients. It should not be administered to patients with suspected or confirmed blockage or perforation of the gastrointestinal tract, patients with slow gastrointestinal motility, patients with intestinal obstruction, toxic colitis, or toxic megacolon. Patients with severely impaired kidney function, severe dehydration, ascites, or congestive heart failure should also avoid using this medication. This medication should be used with caution in patients with severely abnormal fluid or blood test values, a history of seizures or a high risk of seizures, or those at risk of arrhythmias. Caution is needed for patients taking other medications that can affect kidney function, those with problems in the intestinal mucosa, severe active ulcerative colitis, those with impaired vomiting reflex, or those at risk of aspiration. Symptoms such as nausea, abdominal pain, vomiting, abdominal distention, headache, and dizziness may occur after taking this medication. Due to the possibility of electrolyte imbalances, if dehydration symptoms or electrolyte disturbances are suspected, immediate consultation with medical personnel is necessary. Adequate hydration should be maintained while taking this medication, and electrolyte tests and kidney function tests should be conducted in cases of vomiting or severe diarrhea. Electrolyte imbalances can lead to serious side effects such as cardiac arrhythmias or seizures, so caution is necessary. This medication may temporarily raise uric acid levels, which could worsen symptoms in patients with gout, so caution is advised. Patients with heart disease or a history of arrhythmias are recommended to receive an electrocardiogram before and after using this medication. This medication may interact with other medications, so those currently taking other drugs must inform their healthcare provider. Especially, other oral medications taken within one hour before this medication may have their absorption in the gastrointestinal tract impeded by this drug. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should only use this medication when the diagnostic benefits are deemed greater than the risks, as its safety has not been established. The safety and efficacy for children have not been confirmed, and elderly patients may be more sensitive to side effects due to decreased liver, kidney, or heart function, so caution is necessary. This medication should be kept out of reach of children, and it is best to store it in its original container to prevent quality degradation from transferring to another container.
