Precautions

This medication contains sitagliptin and metformin and is used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. First, while taking this medication, severe allergic reactions may occur. If symptoms such as skin rash, hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or neck occur, discontinue use immediately and consult a physician. Additionally, severe side effects such as acute pancreatitis, indicated by inflammation of the pancreas, have been reported. If symptoms like abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, or fever appear, contact medical personnel immediately. This medication is not to be used in patients with severely impaired kidney function, and those with mild impairment should use it cautiously. Regular kidney function tests should be performed, and medication should be discontinued if kidney function deteriorates. It is also not safe to use this medication during acute illnesses or conditions such as severe infections, dehydration, heart failure, and acute myocardial infarction. Patients scheduled for surgery should stop taking this medication 48 hours before the procedure and can resume only after oral intake is restored and normal kidney function is confirmed. This medication can cause hypoglycemia, especially when taken with other antidiabetic agents or insulin, increasing the risk. Symptoms of hypoglycemia include dizziness, cold sweats, and severe fatigue, requiring vigilance. During treatment, maintaining regular meals and proper exercise is important, as suddenly skipping meals or engaging in strenuous activities can increase the risk of hypoglycemia. This medication is not recommended for patients with impaired liver function or excessive alcohol consumption, as alcohol can increase the risk of lactic acidosis, a side effect of this medication. Pregnant women, those who may become pregnant, or breastfeeding mothers should avoid taking this medication, as safety and efficacy have not been established for children under 18 years of age. Regular blood and kidney function tests should be conducted during treatment, and vitamin B12 levels may drop, requiring supplementation if necessary. Finally, there may be interactions with other medications taken alongside this drug, so it's essential to inform the doctor or pharmacist of all current medications, and consult an expert before starting or stopping any new drugs.
