Precautions

This drug consists of sitagliptin and metformin, and is used for diabetes treatment. First, the sitagliptin component may rarely cause serious allergic reactions, so if symptoms such as skin rash, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or lips occur within three months of administration, the use should be stopped immediately, and medical consultation should be sought. Additionally, sitagliptin can induce a condition called pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas, so if symptoms like abdominal pain, vomiting, or nausea occur, visit the hospital immediately. The metformin component can cause lactic acidosis, a rare but potentially fatal metabolic abnormality, so patients with poor kidney function, liver diseases, severe infections, or dehydration should not take this drug. Patients with moderate to severe renal impairment, acute heart failure, myocardial infarction, women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, and patients scheduled for tests using specific contrast agents should not use this medication. This drug carries a risk of hypoglycemia; therefore, caution is required when the amount of food intake is irregular or insufficient, during intense exercise, or when used in conjunction with other hypoglycemic agents. Moreover, this drug contains certain artificial dyes, so patients with a history of allergy to these components should use it cautiously. During treatment, regular kidney function and blood tests should be performed to monitor for abnormalities, and periodic checks of vitamin B12 levels are also advisable. Alcohol consumption may increase the risk of side effects from this drug, so it is important not to overindulge while taking it. If oral intake becomes difficult due to surgery, severe infection, or severe trauma, the medication should be temporarily discontinued, and can be resumed after recovery. If you experience sudden muscle pain, skin rash, severe headache, or dizziness while taking this drug, consult a physician immediately. Finally, this drug is not recommended for use in pediatric patients under 18 years of age, as safety and effectiveness have not been established.
