This drug is used to help control blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes who are also following a diet and exercise regimen. Sitagliptin and Metformin work together to effectively lower blood sugar levels. Regular use can significantly assist in blood sugar management and improve health status.
This medication is generally taken 2 times a day with food, with a gradual increase in dosage to reduce gastrointestinal side effects from metformin. 1. For patients not currently treated with metformin: Start with an initial dose of this medication 50/500 mg, 1 tablet twice a day, and it can be increased to 50/1000 mg, 1 tablet twice a day. 2. This medication contains sitagliptin and metformin and is used for diabetes treatment. First, serious allergic reactions may occur while taking this medication, so if symptoms such as skin rash, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or neck appear, immediately stop use and consult a doctor. Additionally, there is a risk of acute pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas, so if symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, or severe abdominal discomfort arise, inform medical personnel immediately. The metformin component in this drug can cause a rare but life-threatening side effect called lactic acidosis, so seek immediate treatment if symptoms such as shortness of breath, muscle pain, fatigue, or abdominal pain occur. Patients with poor kidney function, dehydration, severe infection, heart disease, or liver disease should avoid taking this medication for safety reasons. It is advisable to temporarily discontinue this medication before and after examinations using iodine contrast media and to resume only after confirming normal kidney function. Pregnant women, women who may become pregnant, and breastfeeding women should not take this medication. This drug should be administered with caution to patients with irregular meals, intense exercise, or a history of certain allergies. There may be side effects such as diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, headache, and upper respiratory infections during the course of treatment, so if symptoms are severe, consult a doctor. When taken with other blood sugar-lowering medications or insulin, the risk of hypoglycemia may increase, so blood sugar levels should be monitored frequently, and medication dosage adjusted if necessary. During treatment, regular checks of kidney function, blood tests, and vitamin B12 levels should be performed to ensure there are no abnormalities. Alcohol consumption can increase the risk of lactic acidosis, so it is important not to drink excessively while taking this drug. If surgery is planned, discontinue this medication 48 hours before the procedure and only resume after confirming that kidney function has returned to normal afterwards. Lastly, this medication is not advised for children under 18 years or those under 10 years of age as safety and efficacy have not been established.
