For patients not previously treated with metformin: Start with this medication 50/500 mg, 1 tablet twice a day, with a dosage increase possible to 50/1000 mg. 2. Precautions

This medication is composed of two active ingredients, sitagliptin and metformin hydrochloride. First, sitagliptin helps in blood sugar control but can rarely cause serious allergic reactions or skin diseases, as well as pancreatitis. If such symptoms occur, discontinue the medication immediately and consult a physician. Second, metformin hydrochloride is effective in lowering blood sugar, but there is a risk of lactic acidosis, a serious side effect, in patients with decreased kidney function or liver disease. Therefore, regular kidney function tests should be conducted while taking this medication, and alcohol consumption should be avoided. This medication should not be administered to patients with moderate to severe renal impairment, acute cardiac issues, acute infections, dehydration, pregnant women, or nursing mothers. Additionally, it should be used cautiously in cases of irregular meals, intense physical activity, or allergies to certain dyes. During treatment, attention should be paid to symptoms of hypoglycemia, and when taken with other blood sugar-lowering agents or insulin, the risk of hypoglycemia may increase; therefore, dosage adjustments should be made according to a physician's instructions. If surgery or radiological tests are planned, the medication should be temporarily discontinued and resumed only after normal kidney function is confirmed. It is essential to regularly monitor blood sugar, kidney function, and blood tests during treatment to detect and manage any abnormalities early. Finally, this medication is not safe for use in children under 18 years of age or in pregnant or breastfeeding women.
