Precautions

This medication is used in the treatment of diabetes and contains the active ingredients sitagliptin and metformin. Firstly, allergic reactions may occur during the use of this medication, so if symptoms such as skin rash, hives, or difficulty breathing appear, you should immediately stop taking it and go to a hospital. Additionally, severe side effects such as pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas) have been reported, so if you experience abdominal pain, vomiting, or severe abdominal discomfort, you should consult a doctor immediately. The metformin component in this medication can cause a serious metabolic disorder called lactic acidosis, so if symptoms such as sudden difficulty breathing, muscle pain, fatigue, or abdominal pain occur, you should inform medical personnel immediately. This medication should not be taken by individuals with impaired kidney function, severe infections, or dehydration. Also, patients with acute heart problems or severe heart failure should not take this medication. You should stop taking this medication before examinations using iodinated contrast agents and should not resume until kidney function is confirmed to be normal after the examination. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should also not take this medication. This medication can cause hypoglycemia, so caution is needed if meals are skipped or are irregular, or during intense exercise. Furthermore, the risk of hypoglycemia increases when taken with other antidiabetic drugs or insulin; thus, medication dosage should be adjusted according to a doctor's instructions. This medication is not recommended for patients with poor liver function, and regular monitoring of kidney function and blood tests should be conducted during use. Alcohol consumption can increase the risk of lactic acidosis; therefore, it is advisable to avoid alcohol while taking this medication. It may be necessary to discontinue taking this medication for a period before and after surgery, and once the patient’s condition is stabilized, treatment can be resumed. During the use of this medication, regular checks of blood sugar, kidney function, and vitamin B12 levels should be conducted to ensure there are no abnormalities. Finally, this medication has not been established as safe and effective for children, and elderly patients should take caution with impaired kidney function.
