How to take

Adult dose

This medication is generally taken twice a day with food, with a gradual increase in dosage to reduce gastrointestinal adverse effects caused by metformin. Patients not currently treated with metformin should start with an initial dose of 50/500 mg, taking one tablet twice daily, and may be increased to 50/1000 mg. Precautions

This medication contains two components: sitagliptin and metformin. Sitagliptin is a medication that helps regulate blood sugar, but it may rarely cause serious allergic reactions. Such reactions can occur within three months of starting the medication, so if symptoms such as skin rash or difficulty breathing appear, you should immediately stop taking the medication and consult a physician. In addition, sitagliptin may cause inflammation of the pancreas, known as pancreatitis. If symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, or fever occur, immediate medical attention is required. Metformin is primarily excreted through the kidneys; therefore, it should not be administered to patients with poor kidney function, and its use should be avoided in cases of severe infection, dehydration, or heart failure which could affect kidney function. During the use of this medication, there is a rare but serious metabolic complication called lactic acidosis, which can occur, so if sudden symptoms such as difficulty in breathing, muscle pain, fatigue, or abdominal pain develop, you must inform healthcare personnel immediately. This medication may also cause hypoglycemia, so caution is advised if meals are skipped or vigorous exercise is undertaken, and the risk of hypoglycemia may increase when taken in conjunction with other blood sugar-lowering medications. When undergoing surgery or examinations that involve the use of radiocontrast agents, this medication should be temporarily discontinued, and kidney function tests should be performed before resuming the medication. It is advisable not to use this medication in pregnant women or those likely to become pregnant, nursing mothers, or children under the age of 18. While taking this medication, regular checks of kidney function and blood tests should be conducted to monitor for any abnormalities, and alcohol consumption should be avoided. Lastly, this medication may interact with certain drugs, so if you are taking other medications, it is essential to inform your doctor or pharmacist.
